In the field of variable-speed gear manufacturing, it is very important to choose effective and accurate processing methods and gear processing; components and production processes and batch sizes determine the choice of tools and gear manufacturing methods.
Gear machining is performed during the soft phase, where the challenge is usually to obtain tight dimensional tolerances. Careful preparation for the hardening stage provides relatively straightforward hard part turning operations, followed by hard machining of gears. In the turning of hard parts, predictable machining and good surface finishing are essential. All of this should be combined with cost-effectiveness.
Due to electric vehicles, new transmission designs, and demands for flexibility and high efficiency at the same time, the gear manufacturing process will undergo major changes. The focus will be far away from the common traditional gear machine tools, and multi-task machining of gear/spline components will become the norm. Power scraping will be the focus as it will replace forming, broaching and spline rolling, and to some extent gear hobbing.
