The main difference and characteristic is that the worm gear transmission ratio is large, but the belt transmission ratio is small; the worm gear transmission is vertical transmission, while the belt transmission is parallel transmission; the worm gear transmission torque is small, but the belt transmission distance is large; the worm gear transmission efficiency is low. The belt transmission efficiency is slightly higher; the worm gear is more complicated in structure, and the cost is relatively high.

1. Features of reducer belt transmission

The transmission has the characteristics of simple structure, stable transmission, shock absorption, large shaft spacing and power transmission between multiple shafts, low cost, no lubrication, and easy maintenance. It is widely used in modern mechanical transmission. Friction-type belt transmission can be overloaded and skid, with low running noise, but the transmission ratio is inaccurate (slip rate below 2%); synchronous belt transmission can ensure transmission synchronization, but the ability to absorb load changes is slightly poor, and high-speed operation is noisy. (2) Worm transmission efficiency is low. It is generally believed that worm transmission efficiency is lower than gear transmission. Especially the self-locking worm drive has an efficiency below 0.5, and the general efficiency is only 0.7 to 0.9.

(3) The heat is large, the tooth surface is easy to wear, and the cost is high.

(4) Large transmission ratio and compact structure. The number of worm heads is represented by Z1, and the number of worm gear teeth is represented by Z2. It can be seen from the transmission ratio formula I=Z2/Z1 that when Z1=1, that is, the worm is single-headed, the worm must turn Z2 to the worm wheel to make one revolution, so a large transmission ratio can be obtained. Generally, in power transmission, take Transmission ratio I=10-80; in the indexing mechanism, I can reach 1000. Such a large transmission, such as gear transmission, requires a multi-stage transmission. Therefore, the worm drive has a compact structure, small size and light weight.

(5) Smooth transmission and no noise. Because the worm tooth is a continuous uninterrupted helical tooth, it is continuous when it meshes with the worm gear. The worm tooth does not enter and exit the meshing process, so the work is stable, with low impact, vibration and noise.
